New Flight Path Proposal Over North Queensferry Community Meeting

New Flight Path Proposal Over North Queensferry

Community Meeting 2:30pm 1st November 2025 - NQ Church Hall

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edinburgh Airport is launching a public consultation on new flight paths that could have lasting adverse consequences for our village. A Community Response Meeting will be held to coordinate our response.

The Community Council will hold a special meeting on Saturday 1st November at 2:30pm in the Church Hall.   All residents are encouraged to attend and help shape our collective voice.

Airport’s Proposals

On Monday 20 October, Edinburgh Airport will unveil plans for potential new aircraft departure routing. One of the proposed options would bring significant new noise and health impacts to North Queensferry.

Although three route options will be presented, the airport’s preferred option (Option 1) is the most disruptive. It would reroute traffic that currently heads over Livingston and southward toward London and Europe to instead turn sharply right after westward take off, cross the River Forth, and fly at relatively low altitude over the village whilst climbing and turning south at a higher altitude after passing us.

This change would shift a major volume of air traffic directly over our community at full engine thrust, increasing noise and pollution exposure.

While all three options affect North Queensferry to some degree, Option 1 is by far the noisiest.

A quieter alternative exists — one that still crosses our area but at a higher altitude and steeper climb rate, reducing the impact.

This consultation may determine the long-term flight path over our village.

Once implemented, changes will be difficult to reverse. Let’s make sure our voices are heard.
